Bruce Willis’ Rep Debunks Report That His Likeness Rights Were Sold

A representative for Bruce Willis has debunked a report that the actor sold away his likeness rights to a deepfake company for future projects.

Last week, a report circulated the web that Bruce Willis has sold the rights to his likeness to a deepfake company known as Deepcake. This would’ve made the actor the first one in Hollywood to set up a deal of this type, but according to THR, his representatives are denying this report.

In a statement released to THR, Bruce Willis‘ representatives debunked such reports, explaining that Willis has not sold his likeness to a deepfake company for future roles, given that he’s now retired from acting. The representative stated that the actor “has no partnership or agreement with this Deepcake company.”

THR reports that a publicist for Deepcake confirmed to them that the rights to Bruce Willis’ digital likeness are unable to be sold, due to the fact that by default, they’re owned by him. They also report that the company’s involvement with Willis was set up through his representatives at CAA. This spokesperson for Deepcake revealed that the company created a digital twin of the actor for 2021 ad campaigns, with future uses of his likeness only to be authorized by Willis himself.

Back in March, Bruce Willis’ family announced that the 67-year-old actor was officially retiring from acting, after receiving an aphasia diagnosis, which is the inability to comprehend or form language because of damage to specific brain regions. The actor has been one of the most prolific movie stars of his time, thanks to his breakout role in the 1980s television series Moonlighting and his iconic work as an action film star, particularly with his role as John McClane in the Die Hard film series. Willis has also starred in other beloved films such as Pulp Fiction, The Fifth Element, Armageddon, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Sin City, Moonrise Kingdom and Looper.
